The Wildcats, who were ranked at No. 23 in the MaxPrep preseason rankings, have already faced elite competition this season, beating highly-regarded Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.) at the Utah National Hoopfest, before losing to current MaxPreps No. 1 Columbus (Miami, Fla.) at Holiday Hoopsgiving and No. 4 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) in the Tournament of Champions.
In its second visit to the Classic, public-school powerhouse Wheeler features a well-rounded and balanced squad that can play a number of styles. The Wildcats have experienced players back from last year’s Georgia State Final Four appearance, led by 6-9 senior forward Tylis Jordan (#47 senior by On3; Ole Miss signee) and 6-6 junior forward Colben Landrew (#83 junior by 24/7 Sports; offers from Purdue, Arkansas, Louisville, Alabama, Cincinnati, Indiana).
The Wildcat program, which has won two of the last three GHSA state championships, is known to be versatile and hard-nosed on defense, while featuring a fast-paced tempo offensive attack.
