The Monarchs of Damien Memorial enter the `Iolani Classic for the fifth time in 2021. The Monarchs were last in the tournament in 2019, winning the consolation championship. Damien, led by Head Coach Keith Spencer comes into the year with a retooled roster. After a year without competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Coach Spencer is excited for the season and the `Iolani Classic. “This year’s team will consist of players with limited varsity experience. The youthfulness also brings talent and skill at the guard positions. Sophomore Luke Patton and freshman Caelan Fernando will lead our young group of guards. Junior Dillon Sevilleja had a great summer, which was encouraging. Senior Jayce Pedro will provide leadership that is much needed for our youthful team. Overall, we are excited about resuming high school basketball in the State of Hawaii and competing in the fierce Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH).”
